The latest piece of artwork was officially unveiled Tuesday afternoon in the circle driveway near the Fine Arts Building and the Shafer Gallery on the Barton Community College campus.
“Winged Aspiration” is a 14-foot tall bronze sculpture that weighs around 900 pounds. The sculpture was inspired by one of Gus Shafer’s wood and wax models that he planned to create in the future.
Barton President Dr. Carl Heilman expressed his appreciation for the new addition to campus and to those that made the sculpture possible.

Bill McKown passed away last year but enjoyed and was heavily involved with the Shafer Gallery. Through a sizable gift from his estate, McKown has allowed the college to make many art-related improvements.
Barton Community College Foundation board member Sylvan Bleeker read a portion of the plaque that will be mounted at the sculpture’s base.
